At Barnes & Noble Education (“BNED”) we are dedicated to making tomorrow a better, more inclusive, and smarter world by servicing all who work in education. As a leading solutions provider for the education industry, we are committed to driving affordability, accessibility, and achievement at hundreds of academic institutions nationwide by ensuring millions of students are equipped for success in the classroom and beyond. Together, our teams work to elevate lives through education.

As an Inventory Control Analyst, you’ll play a key role in maintaining accurate, reliable inventory data across more than 650 campus bookstores. You’ll review and analyze weekly inventory activity, including receipts, returns, transfers, reclassifications, adjustments, and price changes, while investigating discrepancies and partnering directly with stores to resolve issues. You’ll also report on physical inventory results, process monthly adjustments, and evaluate key inventory and margin components to ensure accuracy and integrity across the business. In this role, you’ll make a direct impact by strengthening inventory management practices, reducing shrink, and driving greater system accuracy and efficiency across our nationwide retail network.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Research and correct receiving and unit adjustment errors to ensure data integrity.

  • Monitor negative inventory levels, provide regular reporting, and collaborate with stores to address root causes.

  • Manage support tickets related to inventory control, providing timely and thorough resolutions.

  • Partner with more than 250 café and self-serve locations to collect and analyze monthly physical inventories, including gross margin analysis for Division 89 Café.

  • Process Freight-In and Freight-Out bookings for all stores, reconcile postings to the general ledger, and deliver monthly freight analysis to cross-functional teams.

  • Support physical inventory and reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy of ending inventory and cumulative mark-ons.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • 2–3 years of experience in inventory analysis or a related analytical role required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, AS400, Infor, or Oracle Retail systems preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical ability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

NOTE:

  • Note: This hybrid role is based in New Jersey and requires in-office presence three days per week at our office in Florham Park, NJ.
