We are seeking a Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of Barnes & Noble Education’s college and university bookstores nationwide. This role involves preparing journal entries, reconciling and analyzing general ledger accounts, maintaining the cash reconciliation system and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to resolve issues efficiently. The Staff Accountant will also assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Prepare journal entries, reconcile assigned accounts, and create supporting schedules as needed.
  • Maintain and manage the cash reconciliation system to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Reconcile store, master, and corporate bank accounts, collaborating with store managers, bank representatives, Treasury, and Loss Prevention teams to match book and bank deposits and resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Oversee the maintenance of daily bank data to ensure accurate population within reconciliation software.
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements and opportunities for report automation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to support the team and organizational goals.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • 2-5 years of experience in General Ledger Accounting, Cash Reconciliation, or Audit, with a strong focus on General Ledger Reconciliation and Variance Analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and other advanced functions.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Cadency software (particularly Match) is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and mathematical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize several tasks simultaneously.

Note: This is a hybrid role, requiring both remote work and occasional in-office attendance at our Basking Ridge, NJ location.

The hiring rate for this position is $26.50-29.70 per hour. Actual pay may vary based on factors such as professional experience, skills, and competencies.
